Steve Blackman

Partnership Coordinator, Volunteer Centre & Safeguarding

Steve has worked in the voluntary sector in Calderdale for the past 11 years. Previously managing the Volunteer Centre, based within Voluntary Action Calderdale. He has overseen the delivery of a number of volunteer projects including vInvolved, EASV (Enabling Asylum Seeker Volunteering), CHOICE (Supported Volunteering Project), BASIS (Volunteering Support), volunteer mentoring for ex-offenders and Safeguarding Support for volunteer-involving organisations.

Steve has extensive event management experience including ‘Volunteers’ Week’ activities, Calderdale Neighbours Day, Refugee Week, World Mental Health Day and Calderdale Volunteer Oscars. Steve currently facilitated the Volunteer Managers Partnership and VCS Safeguarding Forum as well as representing Calderdale on EVDC-Regional (England Volunteer Development Council) and YAHVCON (Yorkshire & Humberside Volunteer Centre Organisers Network)

Steve has worked across the voluntary and public sector for the past 22 years, including supported housing, mental health services and teaching. Steve is a qualified teacher (PGCE), has volunteered as a DJ for Phoenix FM and organises fund raising gigs across West Yorkshire.
