Calderdale Council is working in partnership with SSE plc to deliver multiple refurbishment, replacement and construction projects throughout the borough, with an aim to help tackle CO2 emissions as part of their Re:Fit programme.
Calderdale MBC made a commitment in 2012 to reduce its CO2 emissions 40% by 2020. This represented a reduction in emissions of 8,646 tonnes per year and a saving of over £1 million. The Council has made great headway towards reaching this target but now major works are required to make a real difference.
To this end SSE, who will be leading on the works, would like to meet with local businesses to get them involved in the development and delivery of works on multiple Calderdale MBC buildings, including iconic buildings like the Victoria Theatre, Halifax Town Hall and MBI Shay Stadium. The works are aimed at making the buildings more energy efficient and environmentally friendly, helping to reduce CO2 emissions and improve the local environment and will include such projects as:
- Solar panel installation
- Air conditioning & heating systems
- Energy efficiencies
- Electrical works
- Plumbing works
At the event, Darren Gardener of SSE will discuss opportunities for local businesses to tender to be part of the works, as well as what is expected from any sub-contractor. There will also be a talk from Calderdale MBC’s Corporate Assets and Facilities Management (CAFM) team about future tender opportunities and representatives from multiple business support groups.
