Join the VAC – Improving Local Lives Team

VAC – Improving Local Lives (formerly Voluntary Action Calderdale) has provided infrastructure support to its local communities since 2000; they have operated from their own premises in Halifax since 2006.

During their history, they have delivered a wide a range of successful projects, via a variety of funders, to support the voluntary and community sector (VCS) in the Borough of Calderdale. It is an exciting period of change for the organisation and they are looking for dynamic and passionate individuals to join the expanding team. There are several job opportunities based at both Calderdale and Kirklees offices.

Available roles:

Third Sector Support Officer (Calderdale)
16 hours per week fixed term until 2021
£25,000 per annum (pro-rata)

This post is part of the new Third Sector Calderdale Voluntary Sector Infrastructure Support Service (VSI Alliance). The Alliance is a partnership between six organisations, made up of four providers and two commissioning bodies, working together and sharing skills to benefit VCS groups working in Calderdale. The partners include; Voluntary Action Calderdale, North Bank Forum, West Yorkshire Community Accountancy Service, Locality, Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group and Calderdale Council.

You will work as part of the Alliance team delivering a range of organisational development activities in order for Third Sector Organisations (TSOs) to develop, thrive and sustain. Working on an outreach basis and in an enabling way you will support organisations to provide good quality services through providing advice and support on:

  • All aspects of setting up and running TSOs
  • Funding and income streams to support sustainability and development
  • A range of quality assurance systems including Quality For Health. This is VAC’s quality assurance system for the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector delivering health services
  • Partnership working and collaboration

Third Sector Support Officer (Kirklees)
18 Hours per week fixed term until 2019
£25,000 per annum (pro-rata)

This post will provide organisational development support to Third Sector organisations in Kirklees that are undertaking Quality For Health or who wish to undertake the award in the future. Quality For Health is VAC’s quality assurance system for voluntary, community and social enterprise sector delivering health services. You will work as part of the Improving Local Lives Kirklees team working on an outreach basis and in an enabling way.

You will provide advice and support on:

  • The requirements of Quality For Health
  • Organisational development support to organisations completing Quality For Health
  • Organisational development support to organisations in order for them to work towards Quality For Health in the future

Engagement Officer (Greater Huddersfield)
30 hours per week fixed term until 2019
£25,000 per annum (pro-rata)

This post will connect with the VCS and wider communities in Greater Huddersfield on a
range of engagement activities in line with the NHS Engagement Strategy, and provide a point of contact for the NHS around engagement work across this area. The post will work as part of the Improving Local Lives Kirklees team, which is based in Huddersfield.

The Engagement Officer will have responsibility for co-ordinating VAC’s work on “Community Voices” – a local community asset based model, a key aim of which will be to ensure that groups and communities that face barriers to accessing services are fully engaged. The ability to work with statutory partners, as well as organisations within the VCS, will be an advantage.

Administrative Worker (Engagement)
20 hours per week fixed term until 2019
£17,500 per annum (pro-rata)

This post will provide administration support to VAC’s Engagement Lead and Engagement Officer (Greater Huddersfield). The Administrative Worker (Engagement) will maintain and develop existing engagement administrative systems and will have a key role in ensuring that VAC’s engagement work is delivered effectively and efficiently across Calderdale and Greater Huddersfield. As well as having good administrative skills, the post holder will be expected to have a good knowledge and experience of spreadsheets and to be able to work without close supervision.

Reception Administrator
15 hours per week annualised contract (780 hours per annum)
£8.75 per hour

We are seeking a reception administrator to be based at VAC’s main offices and
community resource centre. The role will involve providing a professional reception service for the Resource Centre and an administration service to the organisation. The role is offered on an annualised basis therefore hours are flexible and planned in advance according to the needs of the organisation. The role does however require a minimum commitment to work Fridays from 9am to 4pm.

Closing date: 5pm on 4th June
Interview will take place either 6th or 7th June in Halifax, Calderdale
