The Safer Communities Fund (SCF) is a fund offered and administered by the Office of Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) and is available to the voluntary and community sector to help fund community-based projects and work, with the aim of improving their locality for the people who live there. It is funded by the Proceeds of Crime Act and there is an expectation that West Yorkshire Police would match fund any award.
The OPCC look for applications and projects which as well as improving the locality for the people are also good for developing community engagement. However, the fund cannot be used to fund refreshments, but can include giveaways (i.e. crime prevention items) or renting halls etc. The application should clearly explain how this project helps address the OPCC priorities and outcomes.
The application must provide the project’s specific costs and can provide up to £5,000 per project for 12 months. Within this 12 months the project must reach conclusion. They have two West Yorkshire Police specific points of contact for people to liaise with: Lisa Raynor and Tracey Collins. Applications for the fund are made via the OPCC website between specific and regular windows: https://www.westyorkshire-pcc.gov.uk/safer-communities-fund.aspx
The current grant window opened on 8th January 2018, closing on 9th February 2018 and funds awarded on 19th April 2018.
