At this time of year it is increasingly distressing to see someone on the street, whether you are concerned they are sleeping out or begging.
Please be aware that there is support for people in this situation. Calderdale Council works hard with partners to ensure those in need are offered support. As winter draws in and the temperature falls, ensuring homeless people are offered shelter becomes of paramount importance. The support includes: advice and support at Halifax Customer First; Street Reach (outreach support and advice for people sleeping rough or begging); Crashpad accommodation (short term accommodation whilst they find more permanent accommodation for someone); and Christians Together night shelter.
The new campaign to raise awareness and to let people know who to contact if they are worried about someone who may be sleeping rough, launches shortly. The number to contact if you are concerned about someone is 07584 015756. For more information visit www.calderdale.gov.uk/homeless
During the cold weather, the Council will provide accommodation to anyone when it drops below zero degrees and this can be accessed either via Halifax Customer First during working hours, or the out of hours service on evenings and weekends.
