The General Data Protection Regulation came into force on 25th May 2018. The main intent of the GDPR is to give individuals more control over their personal data and impose stricter rules to companies handling it. The GDPR has brought in a number of different changes to how data is currently stored and used.
GDPR affects any organisation handling an individual’s personal data and the same rules apply to a small charity as they do to a major worldwide corporation.
It will be particularly useful for organisations who have not yet begun, to do a GDPR audit or who need to consider a more practical approach for the implementation of GDPR. For further information on the legalities of GDPR, you can find it on the Information Commissioners Office website at www.ico.org.uk
It’s really not as scary as it seems.
