Beyond Remembrance: Teaching the First World War – deadline for bookings 30th January

March 3, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

As we mark the centenary of the start of the ‘Great War’, this event asks how we can best engage young people with the events of 100 years ago, and how do we go beyond remembrance to explore the war’s global impact and legacy?

With nine workshops led by experienced teachers and speakers from the Imperial War Museum, Hull University and regional museum services, you will:

  • Find out how primary and secondary schools are approaching the Centenary and what they want from heritage sector resources
  • Find out how to create meaningful, useful resources and workshops for schools
  • Explore creative ways of engaging young people with your collections through local stories and hidden histories
  • Debate the meaning and significance of the Centenary
  • Take away a free resource pack of images and sources relating to the First World War.

Thanks to funding from Arts Council England, they are able to offer this event at a rate of £25 per person or £20 each for two or more people from the same organisation who book at the same time.

There are 10 free places for trainee teachers and 10 free places for heritage sector volunteers, allocated on a first come first served basis

For further information and to reserve your place please contact heritage-learning@hullcc.gov.uk or call 01482 318733.
