Family Group Conferences training

June 3, 2015 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

We have been offered free training by ‘Preferred Futures’ to develop the person centred and family friendly approaches required by the new EHC assessment and planning process. The training will explore the usefulness of the Family Group Conference and how they can be used to enhance the EHC planning process.

The training is suitable for all practitioners working with families.

The aims of the training will be:

  • To outline the relevance of Family Group Conferences to schools and Local Authorities (LA) in relation to the National Agenda and Special Needs
  • To review the principles of the Family Group Conference (FGC) Model including the place of Advocacy support for children and young people
  • To explore the FGC process as a person centred outcomes focused approach
  • To consider the context within which FGCs can operate in relation to Education, Health and Care Plans
  • To provide an opportunity for debate and discussion

The trainers

Preferred Futures is a recently established company based in South Yorkshire who provide a range of Family Services and in particular has expertise and experience in Family Group Conferencing (FGC). The aim is to help vulnerable families to find their own solutions by empowering individuals to make lasting changes resulting in these families living their preferred futures.

FGC coordinators act as a conduit between families and agencies to identify and bring together all potential support networks to enable them to make the best possible plans.
