There a number of key changes outlined in the legislation that will be adopted from April 2015 so it is imperative that service providers are prepared to implement the reforms and help drive up the quality of care and support. Aided by additional funding to local authorities for adult care and support, including £1.1 billion transferred from the NHS as part of the Better Care Fund, the changes promises some revolutionary legislation to deliver a better care system in England. There are new responsibilities for local authorities in the ‘wellbeing principle’ that are more structured around an individual’s journey through the system, new duties around need assessment and eligibility and also around the continuity of care.
