In the coldest months of this year, Christians Together Calderdale ran a project called “Inn Churches” to provide emergency accommodation in the form of an evening meal, someone to talk to, a bed for the night and a breakfast in the morning to anyone, who for whatever reason, may be forced to sleep on the streets.
The project was a tremendous success. Dave Fawcett, one of the charity trustees, said “Out of 39 people who stayed with us 29 were found permanent accommodation. That is an amazing result”. Most of the others were able to repair broken relationships and so returned ‘home’.
The same project will be running again for January, February and March 2015 and help is needed. Volunteers are needed to help run the shelter with duties such as cooking, being a friend to the guests, or overnight supervision. A volunteer night is being held at Ebenezer Church (across from the Job Centre) on Tuesday 11th November at 7:30 p.m. If you feel you can help in any way, why not come along and find out more.
Jeff Heaton, Co-ordinator for the project said “Inn Churches changed lives last year, not only for the people who were found new homes but also for many volunteers who see things from a different perspective now”.
