Does your organisation or service work with lower income households who may spend a lot of time at home and have difficulty heating their homes during winter?
Would you like to help them make their homes warmer and cheaper to heat?
Living in a warm home is a basic need, yet almost 12,000 households in Calderdale cannot afford to heat their homes adequately.
As well as having immediate impacts on health conditions like circulatory, respiratory and heart related illness, living in a cold home for long periods of time has also been found to significantly increase the risks of chronic illness and mental health in later life for children and young people, as well as limiting educational attainment.
National Energy Action (NEA), in association with Calderdale Council, is providing two energy awareness sessions free of charge for front-line staff who provide services to lower income households in Calderdale.
The sessions will be of interest to anyone working in an advice/ support capacity with individuals on a low income/ benefits, the long-term unemployed, older people, those living with a disability or a long-term limiting illness, carers, families with children/ disabled children/ mums-to-be and/or any other household struggling to afford their energy bills.
Course attendees will become more energy aware and equipped with the knowledge to provide basic energy advice and to signpost individuals to appropriate schemes, support and services to help them achieve a warmer, healthier and more energy efficient home. The sessions will help delegates:
All trainees receive a small supply of a ‘Steps to Affordable Warmth’ leaflet to cascade to service users to help them identify available energy advice and other services.
Details of the insulation and heating schemes available from the Council for qualifying owner occupiers and private rented tenants through its exclusive www.betterhomesyorkshire.co.uk energy scheme and preferred not-for-profit energy switching service www.whiteroseenergy.co.uk (for ALL local residents) will also be available. Information of all the Council’s schemes can be found at www.calderdale.gov.uk/warmhomes
There are only 20 places per session so please request a booking form from June.firstname.lastname@example.org at your earliest opportunity.
