This is an annual event which is held on the first Sunday after Remembrance Sunday. The service is held for families and friends of road crash victims, and also presents the opportunity for to give thanks to all the emergency services, as well as other organisations who help to support victims. The bereaved have the opportunity to write their loved ones’ name on an ‘oak leaf’ and carry it to the altar during the service. Leaves bearing the names and ages of loved ones are read out. A candle is also lit by the children of St Peters for every name.
The day is also the World Day of Remembrance for road traffic victims, when people across the world join together to remember all those killed or injured in road incidents and the impact on families and their communities.
