As part of the work of the Halifax RLFC Foundation, a Rugby League (RL) Heritage Lunch Club was formed last month.
The wider aim is to use RL memories, anecdotes, stories and personal experiences of past players and RL enthusiasts to engage older people in the community. To meet, find new and old friends, become less isolated, more confident and have a low cost lunch in a friendly atmosphere in a central venue. Its further aims are to provide a regular opportunity for people in the local community to come together to share memories and look at memorabilia.
View a short video of the first meeting, featuring RL legend, Jim Mills: https://vimeo.com/285133407. The 2nd meeting of the club has a theme of “turning the corner” and is set in the late 70s. Already confirmed as guests are Mick Scott, Mick Blacker, Paul O’Hara, and Dave Busfield.
Whilst the target audience are those in the community who are 50+, all ages are welcome. As it is on licensed premises, under 18s must be chaperoned. A two-course meal will be available at the fantastic price of £3.99. You are, once again, advised to pre-book if you wish to guarantee a place by contacting Malcolm Kielty 07946510900 or Chris Mitchell 07947827627 (firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com), leaving your name and contact details. Payment can be delayed until the day. The numbers are limited to 50, so those booking their meal ticket will be given priority and those not buying a meal will be charged £1.
