North Halifax Partnership and Threeways have joined together to launch an exciting new pilot project in North Halifax.
The Staying Well Ageing Better project seeks to improve health and wellbeing outcomes for older people in the community who are lonely or isolated.
We know that loneliness and social isolation can have serious health impacts. It has been estimated that lonely people have a 64% increased chance of developing clinical dementia. Lacking social connections is as damaging to our health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
But there’s also lots of evidence that shows that friendships and taking part in social activity reduces the risk of developing certain diseases, and can help individuals to recover when they fall ill.
Staying Well Ageing Better is a project that recognises that that the people living and working in our local communities are the best placed to know what is already available and where we might need to focus services in the future.
A steering group made up of local people and organisations will oversee the project in North Halifax, and will be able to commission new services and activities. This could mean your group!
Refreshments and signing in from 9:30am.
