Trustees and managers – are you clear about the employment status of the people you pay?

An important issue that WYCAS often finds in their annual accounts work relates to the employment status of the individuals paid by the organisation. It is important to be clear about whether the people an organisation engages are employees or self-employed because the HR responsibilities and tax obligations are not the same. There can potentially be serious repercussions for getting it wrong.

WYCAS has commissioned the Pay and Employment Rights Service (PERS) to run a workshop to help you to be clear on how to judge the nature of the relationship and what this means. The workshop will allow you to:

  • Distinguish the key differences between being employed, self-employed and being a worker
  • Understand the different employment and tax requirements and how to treat them
  • Know how and where to seek advice if the position is unclear

The workshop is at Voluntary Action Leeds on 2 June from 10am till 12pm. There is a small charge of £10 to help cover costs. You can book your place by ringing 0113-2977920.
