Welcome Festival

October 29, 2016 @ 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Calderdale Freedom from Torture and Together We Grow are hosting a Welcome Festival to welcome refugees and asylum seekers.

All members of the public are welcome.

Performers include:

  • Moheddin Aljabi – A famous Syrian singer, now a refugee living in the south of England who sings in Arabic, French and English. He will be accompanied by his daughter, Enas.
  • Dave Nelson on keyboard, with Charlie Carr singing.
  • Harmony Choir from Leeds
  • The Songo Drumming Project from Sheffield

For children there will be face painting and arts & crafts activities.

There will be stalls with information about refugee issues.

Tea, coffee, juices and cakes will be available to purchase.

Parking at the Birchcliffe Centre will be limited to disabled attendees only, to make space for a minibus service and performers’ transport.

The organisers expect around 80 refugees and asylum seekers from Halifax, Rochdale, Leeds and Sheffield. They will be provided with a free lunch and refreshments, with their transport costs provided. If you would like to sponsor one of the asylum seekers you can donate via Localgiving. Any donations up to £10 will be matched until the match fund runs out or at 5pm on Thursday the 17th November 2016.
