Launch of Calderdale Asylum, Refugee and Migrants Network

The inaugural meeting of the Network took place at the VAC Resource Centre, Hall Street, Halifax on 28th November.  We had a great turnout, with twelve organisations represented, including Council and College representatives.  There was a gratifying level of enthusiasm in the room for working together, both as a group and between projects.  Good too to see such commitment, energy and good humour from individuals present.

The range of activities that these groups organise is impressive.  Programmes ranged from the concrete support of advice and housing and children’s health through social activity, culture and sport.  Although much of the activity is focussed in Halifax, there’s activity happening in Hebden Bridge, Sowerby Bridge and Todmorden too.  We hope to bring together information about what is available and make it better known in the district.

The group plan to meet again in January and of course we’ll publish more details of that nearer the time.  In the meantime, if you want to know more about the network, contact Anthony Clipsom, Project Worker, on 07957246387 or e-mail
