Created in 2002 to celebrate the anniversary of The Queen’s coronation, The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service is the highest award given to local volunteer groups, recognising the outstanding work they perform within their communities. It is the MBE for volunteer groups.
Any group doing volunteer work that provides a social, economic or environmental service to the local community can be nominated for the award.
Nominations are accepted from 1st April until mid-September (the September date does fluctuate annually and this date can be found on the QAVS website). The Awards are published on 2nd June, the anniversary of Her Majesty’s coronation. The Award recipients are notified in confidence beforehand.
